This is a late flashback of what happened last month when I attended Libre Graphics Meeting. Yes, that was weeks ago (procrastination, work and pitivi ate all my time) so I’ll keep this short.

  • Hung around with great, passionate people. Had a couple of them “couch surf” at my place. Great conversations ensued.
  • The LGM closure party in a downtown Montréal office “kitted up for a rave” really reminded me of Derek Glidden’s “GNOME vs. KDE” essay from 2002.
    • Except that the attendees were not necessarily GNOME hackers, so they were not exactly drafting a new desktop experience out of puddles on the floor.
    • Still, the description of the venue in Derek Glidden’s essay is… stunningly similar (maybe someone would like to concur or object to my memories of the event?).
  • Took some pictures
  • Met up with Richard Hughes, tried to argue a bit about redesigning packagekit. But I guess this was really just an elaborate plot to get him to follow me on Twitter.
  • Lured Jon Nordby into coming to talk to me about the work he has started on plugging Gstreamer into GEGL and encouraged him to pursue this noble goal. Imagine using the image processing tools from GEGL in Pitivi (or any GStreamer app that needs them). Do you think it means what I think it means?
  • On May 11th, gave my talk on “Pitivi and the state of video editing on Linux”, which the audience seemed to appreciate quite a lot (as the image below shows). Even the Yorba guys seemed to enjoy it! I recorded the talk with no less than 6 devices/sources and edited my own version, with love and the fantastic PiTiVi 0.14. The result, which is probably leaps ahead of anything the official recordings could look like, can be found on the PiTiVi showcase page. Go watch it now, you won’t regret it.
